國民黨全代會19日正式通過提名洪秀柱成為國民黨總統參選人，民進黨總統參選人蔡英文對此表達恭喜和祝賀之意，同時強調，民進黨競選策略仍會依照既定的步驟進行。行政院前院長謝長廷表示，洪秀柱代表國民黨選總統，藍綠都很歡迎、也有高度共識，這也是一種很難得的「台灣共識」。
民進黨發言人阮昭雄則表示，民進黨對於馬英九總統、國民黨主席朱立倫及洪秀柱的全代會談話，表示遺憾。這些談話顯示國民黨並沒有對於全面執政7年的失敗做出深切反省，通篇只在情緒性批評攻擊在野黨及在野黨主席，這種做法有失執政黨應有的格局。尤其洪秀柱的講話，欠缺總統候選人對治理國政的格局。
阮昭雄並強調，這場選戰不只是蔡英文個人的選戰，也不只是誰選上了總統，而是這個社會有越來越多的人認為這個國家應該要改變，「希望這個國家向前走，而不是繼續倒退」。
在國民黨召開全代會之際，蔡英文的行程是南下輔選。蔡英文19日上午在參訪彰化鹿港鎮時，先恭喜並預祝洪秀柱獲正式提名，她說，「民進黨的選戰，還是依照既定的步驟進行，目標非常明確，就是要爭取最多數人的支持及認同。」
據幕僚透露，洪秀柱獲國民黨正式提名後，民進黨將按節奏啟動一波波攻勢，為選舉加溫。民進黨的近期活動有7月25日在台北市政府前廣場舉辦「在地希望生活節」；8月1日各個選戰的組織活動正式展開，2016版本的「三隻小豬」募款撲滿也預計在8月1日正式亮相；其他重大政策8月將陸續推出。
